To ensure a lifetime of good vision and eye health, Dr. Valella recommends a yearly eye exam by age 3.

With your complete eye exam Dr. Valella will dilate your eyes unless there are contraindications. This procedure of using eye drops to enlarge the pupil allows the doctor to get a much better view into the back of the eye to aid in the early diagnosis of eye disease that may not have been otherwise detected. You need to be aware these drops may make it difficult to read up close for approximately 2-4 hours (or longer) after the examination. Please bring a pair of sun glasses with you because you will be very sensitive to light. With a small percentage of patients the dilation can affect distance vision. If you feel this may be a problem, please have someone drive for you.
